 -

दो या दो से अधिक शब्दों के मेल से नए शब्द बनाने की क्रिया को समास कहते हैं !

सामासिक पद को विखण्डित करने की क्रिया को विग्रह कहते हैं !

समास के छ: भेद हैं -

1- अव्ययीभाव समास - जिस समास में पहला पद प्रधान होता है तथा समस्त पद अव्यय का काम करता है , उसे अव्ययीभाव समास कहते हैं !जैसे - 

      ( सामासिक पद )                     ( विग्रह )

1.      यथावधि                          अवधि के अनुसार    

2.      आजन्म                           जन्म पर्यन्त 

3.      प्रतिदिन                           दिन -दिन 

4.      यथाक्रम                           क्रम के अनुसार 

5.      भरपेट                              पेट भरकर 

2- तत्पुरुष समास -  इस समास में दूसरा पद प्रधान होता है तथा विभक्ति चिन्हों का लोप हो जाता है !  तत्पुरुष समास के छ: उपभेद विभक्तियों के आधार पर किए गए हैं -

1. कर्म तत्पुरुष 

2. करण तत्पुरुष

3. सम्प्रदान तत्पुरुष 

4. अपादान तत्पुरुष 

5. सम्बन्ध तत्पुरुष 

6. अधिकरण तत्पुरुष 

- उदाहरण इस प्रकार हैं -

1. कोशकार                          कोश को करने वाला               कर्म तत्पुरुष 

2. मदमाता                          मद से माता                         करण तत्पुरुष 

3. मार्गव्यय                    मार्ग के लिए व्यय                 सम्प्रदान तत्पुरुष 

4. भयभीत                       भय से भीत                         अपादान तत्पुरुष 

5. दीनानाथ                     दीनों के नाथ                        सम्बन्ध तत्पुरुष 

6. आपबीती                 अपने पर बीती                      अधिकरण तत्पुरुष                           

3- कर्मधारय समास -  जिस समास के दोनों पदों में विशेष्य - विशेषण या उपमेय - उपमान सम्बन्ध हो तथा दोनों पदों में एक ही कारक की विभक्ति आये उसे कर्मधारय समास कहते हैं !  जैसे :-

       ( सामासिक पद )                 ( विग्रह )

1.      नीलकमल                     नीला है जो कमल

2.      पीताम्बर                       पीत है जो अम्बर

3.      भलामानस                    भला है जो मानस

4.      गुरुदेव                           गुरु रूपी देव

5.      लौहपुरुष                       लौह के समान ( कठोर एवं शक्तिशाली  ) पुरुष

4-  बहुब्रीहि समास -  अन्य पद प्रधान समास को बहुब्रीहि समास कहते हैं !इसमें दोनों पद किसी अन्य अर्थ को व्यक्त करते हैं और वे किसी अन्य संज्ञा के विशेषण की भांति कार्य करते हैं ! जैसे -

       ( सामासिक पद )               ( विग्रह )

1.      दशानन                        दश हैं आनन जिसके  ( रावण )

2.      पंचानन                        पांच हैं मुख जिनके    ( शंकर जी )

3.      गिरिधर                        गिरि को धारण करने वाले   ( श्री कृष्ण )

4.      चतुर्भुज                        चार हैं भुजायें जिनके  ( विष्णु )

5.      गजानन                       गज के समान मुख वाले  ( गणेश जी )

5-  द्विगु समास -  इस समास का पहला पद संख्यावाचक होता है और सम्पूर्ण पद समूह का बोध कराता है ! जैसे -       

         ( सामासिक पद )                  ( विग्रह )

1.        पंचवटी                           पांच वट वृक्षों का समूह

2.        चौराहा                            चार रास्तों का समाहार

3.        दुसूती                             दो सूतों का समूह

4.        पंचतत्व                          पांच तत्वों का समूह

5.        त्रिवेणी                           तीन नदियों  ( गंगा , यमुना , सरस्वती  ) का समाहार

6-  द्वन्द्व समास -  इस समास में दो पद होते हैं तथा दोनों पदों की प्रधानता होती है ! इनका विग्रह करने के लिए  ( और , एवं , तथा , या , अथवा ) शब्दों का प्रयोग किया जाता है !

     जैसे -

1.         हानि - लाभ                        हानि या लाभ

2.         नर - नारी                           नर और नारी

3.         लेन - देन                           लेना और देना

4.         भला - बुरा                          भला या बुरा
